GISEYE Vector Converter

GISEYE Vector Converter application is designed for vector maps conversion from one type and format into another. The application enables to:

  •        Convert vector maps of one type and format into another
  •        Re-projection vector maps into a wide range of available projections
  •        Change vector map name
  •        Combine vector maps by adding one vector maps’ coordinates values to the existing file of the other vector map
  •        Cut a segment from the vector map by specified coordinates and re-convert it
  •        Perform data batch processing

System requirements

  •    Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/Vista or higher
  •    Intel Pentium-III processor or higher
  •    128Mb of RAM
  •    Display mode 1024×768 TrueColor

Screen shot

GISEYE Vector Converter dialog contains groups of elements to set up input and output conversion parameters of vector maps and the output information field, indicating the conversion status. The group of elements to control the input vector maps parameters is located in the left part of the dialog, whereas the elements to control output vector maps parameters are located in the right part of the dialog. Output information field is located in the bottom of the dialog

The dialog also has a set of function buttons to run the conversion and to save output operation results.

Software GUI description

Vector files input parameters setup

Input parameters of vector files consist of the list of vector maps and the element to set up a projection.
Input Files list for further conversion, press Add button and select the vector map from the required folder using the standard file selection dialog window.
To delete a vector map from the list, select the required vector map with the left mouse button and press Delete button.
Override Source Projection checkbox enables to reassign the projection, where the coordinates of vector map points are interpreted. Projections can be assigned using the Map Projection Parameters (List) control that contains a list of names of parameters, describing the current projection properties and a set of their values. This control element fields become available for the user for direct editing or selection of parameters from the drop-down list by clicking with the left mouse button on the corresponding parameter.
The title, describing the current presentation of geo-projection, is located in the upper part of map projection parameters control element. By clicking left mouse button on the title the user can change the projection parameter presentation mode. The user can preview the map projection parameters in three modes: as a list of parameters (described above), as WKT line (Well Known Text) and as +PROJ line. Editing of map projection parameters is accessible to the user only in the list mode.

Vector maps output conversion parameters setup

Output Files group of elements enables to specify the output parameters of vector maps conversion.
To set up the output folder, where the vector map will be created in, it is required to use the button opening the standard folder selection dialog next to Folder list box, or enter the path manually in it.
GISEYE Vector Converter dialog enables to change the output vector map name. To change the output vector map name, specify the new vector map name in the Change Name field. This option is available if the list of input vector maps contains only one vector map file.
To change the format of vector map, select the required format from the drop-down File Format list.
To change the raster file type, check Data Type box and select the required vector map type from the drop-down list next to the checkbox.
If there is a vector map under the same name in the output folder, GISEYE Vector Converter enables to add the vector maps coordinates to the existing file or to overwrite this file.
To allow for addition of coordinates of vector map being converted to the existing file, select Append from the drop-down list of If Exists.
To overwrite the existing file during the vector map conversion, select Overwrite in the drop-down list of If Exists.
Errors may occur during the vector map conversion. Skip Failures checkbox (skip defects) enables to override the program (converter) steps in case of errors during conversion.
To allow the program to suspend the erroneous vector map conversion, make sure that Skip Failures box is unchecked.
Skip Failures checkbox should be checked, if it is required to continue the conversion of the erroneous vector files.
GISEYE Vector Converter enables to cut a segment of vector map by specifying the coordinates of the angles of rectangle.
To specify the coordinates of the segment being cut out, check the Cut Segment box, and then enter the respective X, Y coordinates of the angles in the fields.
To change the output projection of the list of vector maps, check Set Output Projection, and then enter the output projection parameters in the projection setup control element.
If checked, Set Output Projection activates also the options to recalculate the output projection. It is a must to select one of the forms of output projection recalculation.
To avoid changes in the numeric values of coordinates during the conversion and to allow the projection to be assigned only to the vector map title bar, click on Assign radio-button.
To allow the numeric values to be recalculated into a new projection and to be overwritten as reprojected, click on Reproject radio-button.

Control button
To start conversion, press Convert button located to the right of the Output Information field. The field will display the conversion status and will eventually show up the process termination message.
To save the output data, press Save output button, located to the right of the Output Information field as well. The program will open the standard save file dialog.
GISEYE Vector Converter dialog can be closed using Close button to the right of the Output Information field or using the standard window close button in upper right corner of the dialog.
