SCANEX automatizes data processing at DRS and in RS Centers
ScanEx Center released a crucially new TaskFlow® software application for Windows OS, designed to automatize RS data processing technique.
TaskFlow® will be of interest especially to those who actively use different preliminary processing application packets, such as IMAPP (MODIS scanners data from Terra/Aqua satellites), ScanEx SPOT Tools, ScanEx IRS Tools, etc. The new TaskFlow® application will allow, for example, the users of ScanEx receiving stations to set up tasks for all types of data, received at a specific station, one time only. Further on, when TaskFlow® is used they will have only to start the processing sequence that will be automatically creating finished products in the output folders.
In this way TaskFlow® enables to specify tasks for step-by-step batch processing of large volumes of data using a random set of console programs. If each console program executes a certain data processing step in "disk-to-disk" mode, the task, specified in TaskFlow® application, will enable to fully automatize such a multi-step data batch processing sequence.
The new application inherited the traditional and well-recognized ScanEx’s GUI and intuitive principles of tasking. Fairly wide possibilities of TaskFlow® allow the user both to automatize and to execute step-by-step control of batch processing with respect to different data formats.
One may familiarize oneself with the application possibilities using TaskFlow® installer available on company’s web-site: http://support.scanex.com/temp/mail/TaskFlow.zip. (TaskFlow® user’s guide is also available in installation directory).
One may purchase TaskFlow® product and get all the required information via ScanEx RDC customer’s service at: software@scanex.ru.

Cataloguing space images – what can be easier?
ScanEx R&D Center offers all interested to find out more about the new MagicCatalog® software package that has been created to generate and to manipulate with catalogs of space images, setting up archives of remote sensing data. This software component is integrated and is part of ScanMagic® software application version 2.5 that began to be supplied starting in 2008.
Cataloguing (creation and replenishment of metadata, describing the space images) is an integral part of RD data archiving (storing data in archives on specific storage media). Cataloguing enables to systematize data, to ensure quick retrieval of references about the data archives stored, to arrange for search and selection from archives of the data of interest per user request.
MagicCatalog® universal cataloguing tools make it possible to:
- Handle large volumes of RD data of different type, output format and processing level. In other words, separate or combined catalogs can be created for RS data, received from different imaging systems of various satellites, in different formats and processing levels. Any data ScanMagic® software can operate with (over 70 diverse graphical, GIS and ERS formats), can be cataloged using MagicCatalog®.
- Automatically retrieve metadata, quicklooks and images geolocation. That means that all data, required for cataloguing and further use is retrieved automatically when images are stored in the catalog. The user may change attributes of records and enter comments. A set of images can be added into the catalog automatically with just one mouse click, thus enabling data batch processing. Each image being cataloged can be associated with the name of data storage medium where the output image will be saved to.
- Create and edit custom catalogs (databases). Global catalogs (e.g. RS data unified archive of the reception center; a catalog of a stand-alone organization) and local catalogs (e.g. thematic catalogs for this or that thematic project) can be supported. MagicCatalog® users may exchange information about the cataloged data both inside and beyond one organization and with external users. Possibility to create and arrange for access to network catalogs (within one local net) enables to tailor flexible solutions for storing metadata of images being archived.
- Perform attributive search and display catalog data selection results. A user-friendly request form (search filter) enables to do data search by any available attributes (imagery data, satellite type, geographic location, etc.). Search results are displayed in table as contour coverages on the world map with a possibility to view quicklooks and attributive data (metadata) of each image.
- Create any catalog record dumps to transfer data about the image to other persons. Several files are created: quicklook in JPG format, metadata in TXT format and georeference in SHP format that can be previewed and used in other software packages.
All the abovementioned features make cataloguing tools easy-to-use and efficient.
Demo version of ScanMagic® v.2.5, User’s Guide and Tutorials are available at our web-site. We will be glad to answer your questions by e-mail software@scanex.ru or by phone (495) 739-73-85.

ScanMagic® v. 2.5 software data processing for LINUX.
Now LINUX users have access to the initial set of ScanMagic software functions: data visualization and analysis, georeferencing, geometric correction, creation of mosaics, operations with vector layers, etc. The new ScanMagic® v.2.5 version for LINUX the basic features were amended and expanded by the possibility of building scattergrams, pixel profile lines analysis, image segmentation, conversion of raster and vector files of different formats, and by many other useful tools.
More details about the new features.
Building scattegrams and two-dimensional image histograms with 3D visualization feature is aimed at in-depth analysis of the raster properties, in particular for analysis and detection and objects properties on the image.
For brightness analysis of an image the software has a tool of building a scalable pixel profile line and a special toolkit for channel-by-channel analysis of intensity values for the selected image pixel and its neighborhood with the option to copy the table of selected values into clipboard.
Image segmentation algorithm is based on the analysis of image spectral properties. Segmentation is done on the user-defined number of breakdown classes, depending on the image maximum number of allowable breakdown classes for a certain plot is defined automatically.
Vector and raster files conversion function enables to convert them from one type into the other, to change names and to re-project vector maps and raster files into a wide range of available projections, to cut out a fragment from a file based on specified coordinates and many more.
Software familiarization
Lite-version of software, not time-limited but without the saving options is now available at ScanEx’s website. We will be glad to see you at our ScanMagic® v.2.5 software training courses that are carried out based on unique tutorials. Much attention at the courses is drawn to general issues of remote sensing (basic principles of image creation and calibration, comparison of using algorithms of geometric correction, enhancements and thematic interpretation), as well as to practical applications of RS data. Please send your application requests to take our training courses to course@scanex.ru.
